Ensure that First Citizens maintains adequate credit, market and operational risks and that the Bank is in full compliance with banking laws, regulations and internal policies and procedures.
Review internal bank policies to ensure they align with external banking regulations.
Advise management of emerging compliance issues and consult and guide the Bank in the establishment of controls to mitigate risks.
Oversee and implement risk analysis/assessment and monitoring related to compliance activities and serve as an in-house expert to provide compliance advice and guidance to Bank staff, addressing any compliance questions.
Consult with counsel as needed to resolve complex legal compliance issues.
Work with the Audit Committee of the Board and Internal Audit to develop an annual risk-based audit schedule ensuring that those areas with the greatest potential of risk receive appropriate audit attention, oversee annual compliance audits with the staff and coordinate the Bank’s efforts related to various compliance related audits, reviews and examinations.
Serve as the Bank’s representative to Regulators with respect to Bank compliance and prepare internal components for examinations, conduct post examination follow-up, prepare responses and oversee corrective actions.
Provide management and oversight of deposit, loan, trust/investment compliance including but not limited to the areas of loan review, audit, BSA/AML, OFAC, deposit compliance, CRA, Fair Lending, Privacy, and Dodd-Frank Act and consumer complaints to ensure compliance efforts are maintained on a daily basis.
Ensure department activities run smoothly and efficiently by providing leadership, training and supervision to compliance and audit personnel.
Develop and maintain a personal development program for maintaining an adequate level of knowledge in banking, management, and demonstrate personal and interpersonal behavior, attitude, judgment, communication and initiative with customers and employees in order to ensure an acceptable degree of performance.
Minimum of 7 years’ senior level experience in bank compliance related position.
Four-plus years of division level supervisory experience.
Comprehensive risk management and regulatory knowledge as a banker or regulator.
Extensive knowledge of banking laws and regulations and proficient in interpreting complex regulatory provisions.
Strong interpersonal and influencing skills across all levels of the Bank as demonstrated by proved ability to generate recommendations which improve the business and are accepted by business line personnel.
Detail-oriented, analytical, methodical and common sense to problem solving.
In-depth and extensive compliance and auditing skills along with proven practical application.
Knowledge and understanding of applicable operational, regulatory and lending policies and procedures.
Bachelors’ degree in business.
(preferred) Broad understanding and knowledge of industry best practice and regulatory expectations for risk management and compliance.
(preferred) Excellent written and oral communication skills, with experience communicating to all levels within the Bank.
(preferred) Demonstrated word processing, spreadsheet, general ledger, internet, e-mail and database experience.
